Cocoa Baby Ankle Booties Crochet Pattern
With the autumn months upon us, the weather has been so glorious this past week, that I’ve been leaving my desk at every available opportunity, making the most of these last few weeks of warmth before the cold sets in.
Whenever I think of autumn, cosy nights by the fireplace instantly come to mind. There’s nothing I love more than snuggling underneath a fluffy blanket, with a mug of hot cocoa keeping my icy fingers nice and toasty, and crochet project laying readily by my side.
Is there anything quite as nostalgic as the smell of hot cocoa? The smell takes me back to when I was just a little girl and my mum would make my brother and myself each a warm mug, filled to the brim, as we enjoyed a snuggly evening in the fort we had just built from a mountain of blankets and pillows. Hot cocoa is as much a part of every childhood is, as playing in a sandbox or flying a kite.
Recently I was feeling a bit sentimental and decided to whip up a quirky pair of ankle baby booties, inspired by the warm tones on display every autumn.
I happened to have some Sirdar Cotton DK in my stash, which was the perfect fit for this little project… Not too chunky, and the skeins came in the most beautiful neutral shades!

Thank you for these adorable baby boots. They look so nice and I would like to make them for my nephew for Christmas. I just have a question about the camel stitch. I did not know this stitch before and when I look it up I can only find instructions to work with hdc and not with or into single stitches (and I really do not see that extra loop 🙂 ). So I am failing to get the right start of the upper part of the booties. Could you help me with this part? That would be awesome
Cath says
I’ve got the same question. Is there a solution?
Deborah Borne says
I think the solution is to do a very loose single crochet but when I make these again I will just do a half double in round 1 of the top.
KalJo says
Camel stitch is working in the 3rd loop (closest to you under the 2 bars on the top of the work).

What perfect timing! I just found out last night that there's a baby on the way, and these would make a perfect baby shower gift!
Belinda Williams says
Love this pattern! Can’t wait to get started on it.
Sherry says
These turned out really well after I learned to count correctly 🤭. I highly recommend stitch markers to help with knowing the beginning of the row.
I am not sure of the benefit of the camel row, except for visual texture and it took a lot of time, atleast for me. I think next time I will do another row of SC back loop only.
Otherwise beautiful shoe for my new granddaughter.

Thank you for the pattern. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but my colour change from the sole shows a jump. Could you please help me figure out how to make it look smooth like yours? Thanks, again.

Re: Cocoa Baby Booties Free Pattern
At the end of the rnd it says not to sl st in 1st st of rnd but to start crocheting in the 1st st of previous rnd. I’m not sure where to crochet this 1 st. Please show on photo where to do this. Thank you.
Jen says
So rather then slip stitching into the start of the round your just done your single stitching in it therefore starting the next round in it hope this makes sense 🙂

Bonjour est que je pourrais avoir le modèle en francais merci
Old Grey Mère says

Is the round 1 of the top of the bootie suppose to be hdc or sc because I can’t work the camel stitch of round 2 in the sc
Shawna says
I did it with sc. it is a tight stitch but doable. If you do the 1st round a little loose you can get in there.
Shawna says
Ok I’m so confused on the right bootie -button cuff. I get it says sl st 15th from center back and I get the ch part. I don’t get all the jumble after that. And if I am understanding it and you do around to inside on opposite side. Where are the other 28 stitches and how did you get 48 total for the row.
Doris Sevilla says
Hermoso…so beautifull trabajo! Soy una fan del tejido! Voy a procurar realizarlo y de ser posible enviarle fotos!

Good day thank you for posting the pattern of this bootee I am definitely going to try it and hope to get it right. What a coincidence – when I read through the pattern I saw your name is Olivia and my granddaughter for whom I want to make is, her name is also Olivia. Thanks again and would like to hear from you Regards

These look lovely but I am having trouble with the pattern. I have made several attempts but still the number of stitches I end up with is more than stated. Tried everything without success then actually added up the number of stitches I should have and it doesn’t correspond with what’s stated. Really frustrating. Could you check this (particularly on the foot section) and correct the pattern please?
I really want to make these but have wasted so much time and wool, I’m beginning to lose patience!
Abigail Coules says
I’m ending up with so many stitches left even after meticulous counting! Not sure where I’m going wrong 🙁
Ann Brewer says
did you ever figure this out I am having the same problem
Nana B says
How can I print this? They are so cute!
Patty Armstrong says
I don’t understand on the larger size what is row 9? I only see 2 rounds of dc2tog but the pictures show 3. ????? What am I doing wrong?
Patty armstrong says
Found my problem 🤔🙂
Regina Zimmer says
the photo shows a g size hook for the body but the pattern calls for a c size 3mm hook ?? are you suppose to switch to a 4 mm hook for the body ?
Elizabeth Wrenn says
Yes They do switch sizes!
Catherine Kalijundic says
Hello Olivia (my daughters name). I’ve just finished your booties, it was a fun challenge learning new stitches. I am in a foreign country for the winter, so limited supplies…I bought a cotton yarn that turned out to be only 4 ply, seemed to work tho.
My question is the top of the toe is puckered? Yours looks lovely and smooth, how do I make this better? I only used one colour (because I was learning)
Barbara Sancomb says
These booties are just about the cutetist things , that I have ever seen,,,b.s.
Elizabeth Wrenn says
I crochet these for my daughter and now I’m coming back to do them again in this shade for my good friend and neighbors new baby girl 😍
Tokkie De Jager says
They are so beautiful! Thank you so much! Have a blessed day 💜
Kathy says
This pattern is so cute…I did have a hiccup though when starting the cuff for the right bootie… I finally figured out that the pattern works if you start the cuff from the inside facing you. The cuff for the left bootie worked out facing the outside. Hope this helps those that are stumped…😁
Sabrina says
Thanks, this was the only conclusion I had come to as well. Glad to see it confirmed!
Lisa says
Than you for sharing your beautiful pattern with us, i JUST found out I’m going to be a first time Gramma, do I’m so excited to make Booties and Blankee’s for Lil man 💗💗💗

Hi! These are just adorable! Are we allowed to sell booties made from this pattern if we link back to this pattern?
Michele Brubacher says
There is a mistake in step 4 of the sole. The numbers don’t add up.
Michele Brubacher says
So sorry. I read the instructions wrong. There is no mistake in step 4 of the sole. Excuse my error please. I really love your patterns. Thank you for sharing them.
Martika says
When should I switch to a G needle? Is it for the whole top of the bootie? Also I finished a right bootie all in C and it looks very round, would that because of not switching needles?
Cath says
They are absolute adorable! Unfortunately I van move on with the part for the camel Stitch after a series of single crochet. Actually, I’ve got the same question as Hanne. Is there a solution?
GH says
Hi, the link to the cocoa baby ankle boot pattern does not show the pattern. Can you tell me how to download it please?
Bourlard Emilie says
Hello,
I completely don’t understand this passage as we just finish the sole with the same yarn, why do we need to stop and attach a new one ?
« Attach yarn (Light Taupe) right in the middle of the sole/heel, crocheting from the outside of the bootie »
Plus what is the middle of the sole exactly ? Could be on this side, on the front. And crocheting from then outside what does it mean as we are crocheting in circle we are always on the outside 😖 confuse about this part and cannot go further 😭
Sue Pabst says
I have made 3 attempt at this pattern but they all have come out pointy and a size for a two year old. My yarn & needle are the right size and my stitch count is correct as well. No one else seems to have this problem. What am I doing wrong. Please help.
Madison says
I had this exact problem!
Tina says
Beautiful pattern. Thank you for sharing. It was easy to follow.
Annick LeBel says
love the pattern and found very fun to do! Small problem is that i would need 11 cm… If I add a couple of stitches will it alter the pattern… I need help, theses booties i need to make for november..
